American singer-songwriter Ne-Yo has broken his silence over the Sri Lanka concert, saying it had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

In a post on social media, Ne-Yo said he was looking forward to the concert in Sri Lanka but will need to do it another time.

“Know that I will see you soon,” he said.

Ne-Yo was scheduled to perform on 28th December at the Sugathadasa Stadium, a multi-purpose stadium in Colombo.

Tickets were sold well in advance for the concert and was promoted by Ne-Yo on his official website.

However, just 3 days before the concert, Brown Boy Presents, the organizers, announced that the concert had to be postponed owing to reasons beyond their control.

No reason was mentioned for the sudden postponement of the concert and when the new dates will be.

This led to a huge backlash on social media with fans who purchased tickets demanding a refund and others calling for an investigation over possible fraud by the organisers.

Local media reported that a complaint was also lodged with the authorities to investigate Brown Boy Presents.

“To every fan, ticket holder, and partner we hear you, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time. We remain committed to being transparent and will continue to communicate updates responsibly as we work through this,” Brown Boy Presents said.

Brown Boy Presents said that tickets will be refunded and that discussions were underway with Ne-Yo to fix a new date.

The concert had the backing of major brands in Sri Lanka, including Cinnamon Grand hotel, Colombo.

Issuing a statement, Cinnamon Grand said it recognise and shared the disappointment and frustration felt by fans who were eagerly anticipating the “NE-YO Live in Sri Lanka” concert.

Cinnamon Grand said it had no financial involvement with the concert but was only the hospitality partner.

The hotel said it supports “appropriate action” to swiftly resolve the situation and restore confidence in Colombo as an entertainment and tourism destination.
