Veteran Sri Lankan musician Senaka Batagoda passed away at the age of 65.

Batagoda passed away while receiving treatment in hospital.

Batagoda was a Sri Lankan singer and music composer who sang numerous songs and rose to prominence with a mix of unique blend of folk influences, versatile vocals, and mastery of various genres.

He received his first feature film playback singing opportunity through the film CineMa.

In April 2024, an enjoining order was issued by Colombo Commercial High Court preventing Senaka from singing seven popular Sinhala-language songs including Api Kavuruda, Api Senasille, Alu Yata Gini, Rastha, Heena Walata Panak Thiyenawa, Senasuma and Hodama de.

The court proceeded following a complaint filed under the Intellectual Property Act by musician Janath Kulathilake who insisted to restrain Senaka from singing his songs. (Colombo Gazette)
