These photographs taken by journalist Dharisha Bastians shows the aftermath of the violence which broke out at Weliweriya last night over contaminated water.
Residents in the area alleged that the army had attacked them but the army says they shot in the air in retaliation as self defence when the villagers attacked the troops.
